Have you ever wondered how much your bladder can hold?

Yeah, I didn't really either until I saw it in comparison to something familiar.

So in comparing the bladder's capacity to Starbucks coffee cups here's what it is:

A normal bladder can hold 400-600 ml of urine which is equal to a Venti Starbucks cup.

Normal voiding of urine (going pee) is between 250-550 ml which is equal to a Grande Starbucks cup.

And you will always have a post void residual (urine left in the bladder) of under 50 ml which is an Espresso Shot.

This picture can help if needed:

The Venti cup is on the left, the Grande in the middle, and the Espresso shot is marked on the smallest cup on the right.

If you're not sure if this is normal for you, a great way to find out is to do a bladder diary.

A pelvic health physical therapist can help you with this. Or if you want to try on your own there are great apps out there like:

iUFlow and others.

The best way is to actually measure your volume of urine with a measuring hat that you put on your toilet:
